In this important update, 2024 NCJAR President Chris Coccia addresses the members of the North Central Jersey Association of Realtors (NCJAR) following the recent proposed settlement of a class action lawsuit against the National Association of Realtors (NAR). The settlement, proposed at $418 million over the next four years, aims to resolve most of the lawsuits facing our members, involving agents, brokers, associations, and MLSs. Key changes include the prohibition of listing compensation offers on the MLS for buyer agents, which will now be negotiated off MLS. Chris emphasizes the importance of adapting to these changes, including the mandatory signing of buyer agency agreements with all buyers.
To ensure our members are well-informed and equipped to navigate these changes, NCJAR is offering an Exclusive NAR Lawsuit Update webinar with Darryl Davis on Thursday, March 21st from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. This free session will cover transparency and compensation legal issues, including how the MLS will operate without listed compensation. This session will be crucial for all members to understand the settlement's implications and how to adjust their practices accordingly.
