Land Scam in Sussex CountyNCJAR has been alerted to an attempted scam involving a fraudulent land listing in Frankford, Sussex County.

A person impersonating a property owner is contacting real estate agents via Homes.com, requesting listing services for 298 Wantage Ave, Frankford, NJ. The impersonator uses the following false identity:

  2. Phone: 201-510-5568

What Happened:

A licensed agent received an inquiry via Homes.com from “David Marini,” claiming to own the property and requesting immediate listing. He refused to meet in person and claimed he was out of town, insisting the agent send listing papers remotely.

Sensing red flags, the agent proactively verified ownership through public records and contacted the real property owner, who confirmed:

  1. He still owns the property,

  2. Has no intention of selling, and

  3. Has been contacted by other agents as well.

What You Should Do:

  1. Verify ownership before listing land or vacant property.

  2. Avoid sending listing agreements without confirming the seller’s identity with documentation or in-person verification.

  3. Report any similar attempts immediately to NCJAR and local authorities.
