online safety emailinternetProtecting your business and personal information starts with smart online habits. RJR Solutions, a trusted NCJAR vendor and Affiliate Business Partner, has shared important email and internet safety tips to help members recognize potential scams and reduce cybersecurity risks.

Before You Click, Slow Down

Fraudulent emails can appear to come from a broker, colleague, client, friend, or other trusted contact. Before responding to an unusual request, carefully check the sender’s actual email address. If someone asks you to purchase something or the message seems out of character, confirm the request by phone rather than replying to the email.

Make MFA Part of Your Routine

Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) whenever it is available for your email and other online accounts. This provides an additional layer of protection beyond your password.

Be Careful With Links & Attachments

Never click links or open attachments from unknown sources. Be especially cautious when an unexpected PDF or other attachment asks you to enter login credentials. Files with unusual extensions—including .exe, .html, .php, .pif, and .vbs—can also be dangerous.

Browse With Caution

When you know a website’s address, type it directly into your browser. If you use a search engine, carefully review the web address before clicking. Scammers may create websites designed to look like legitimate organizations in an effort to capture information or convince you to call a fraudulent support number.

Don't Fall for Scareware

If a pop-up suddenly tells you to call Microsoft, Apple, tech support, or another company because of an alarming computer problem, do not call the number. These messages may be designed to connect you with scammers. Never allow someone to remotely access your computer unless you already have a trusted relationship with that company or individual.

A Reminder for NCJAR Members

Real estate professionals handle important communications and information every day. When you're busy, it can be easy to move quickly through emails and online requests. Slow down, verify anything unusual, and think before you click, respond, or share information.
